Staying traditional thats the way I like
it...........
Call me old fasioned but I have to say I still
prefer to use tried and trusted equipment when
I'm playing. I have tried many of the modern
guitars, transistor amplifiers, digital signal
processors and effects units but in the end
i still find that to my ears Fenders, all valve
tube amplifiers and the analogue stomp box's
pedals give me the best sound... so far.
What I dislike greatly about the digital effects
are that they do not have a true bypass switch
so that you can have the clean un alduterated
sound from your guitar.
They always have your signal being converted
by the ADDA converters so you can never have
the direct sound that the guitar produces.
This means that the guitar loses its clarity
and mainly mid and bottom edge punch and sounds
thin and lacking in power.
If you use the Send & Return loop on the
Fender twin you can get round some of that
using the knob to blend how much of your signal
goes through the effects and how much is direct.
That kind of disguises the problem and although
it is still not ideal it does give you some
of your guitar back au naturelle..
So that persuaded me to go back to the cupboard
and retrieve some of my old stomp box's.
